For fundraising
The Hilton Head Humane Association would like to thank all who participated in the gift card fundraiser July 9 for the shelters in Mississippi and Missouri affected by the recent tornadoes and floods.
Our goal was to raise $1,000 for each of three shelters, and thanks to the Lowcountry community we surpassed our goal.
We will be sending gift cards from PetSmart, Petco and Walmart, totaling $1,058 each, to the Joplin Humane Society, which took in 1,300 displaced pets; the Vicksburg Warren Humane Society; and the Madison Ark Mississippi. All three shelters are struggling financially to keep up with the demand.
A special thanks to The Surf 104.9 for fabulous entertainment and advertisement, Catch 22 for wonderful food and financial support and the Girl Scouts for their fundraising efforts and enthusiasm.
We also are grateful to our wonderful staff and volunteers who performed double duty with adoptions and gift card collections.
We have made wonderful friends in Mississippi and Missouri, who are happy to return the favor if we are ever in need.

For hospitality
My daughter and I are in Hilton Head Island for hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments. We have been here for four weeks, and I have some observations on this wonderful town.
I was in Bi-lo the other day and needed help shopping. My daughter has cerebral palsy and was given a personal shopper for as long as I needed. This person even brought the groceries to my van.
Our family is from Myrtle Beach and had never been to Hilton Head. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. We are staying at the Hampton Inn, and they are so accommodating. We are impressed and wanted your town to know that we loved it here.
