EVENTS
Area students in kindergarten through seventh grade are invited to participate in the Beaufort County School District's free virtual summer school program. Students can work on individual areas of need or prepare for the coming school year by using a Web-based tool during the eight-week program this summer. Students will complete CompassLearning sequences in math and language arts for each week of summer school. The program will be available through Aug. 5. Registration is available at goo.gl/kUfQJ.

The University of South Carolina's University Test Prep program and University of South Carolina Beaufort are teaming up to offer a SAT/ACT test prep program at the Hilton Head Gateway Campus in Bluffton. The course will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 1-4. The program is intended to help rising ninth- through 12th-graders. Lunch, course materials (including the Official SAT and ACT textbooks), workbooks and interactive online comprehensive review sessions in September will be provided. Registration is required. First grade "meet and greet" will be from 8:30-10 a.m. Aug. 12; second through fifth grade "meet and greet" will be from 1-3:30 p.m. The first day of school is Aug. 15. Picture day is Sept. 8.

Extended Learning Days will be Aug. 1-5. The cost of elementary lunch will rise to $1.45. The changes will only affect the cost of lunch, not breakfast.
