After a damp opening night Friday, the second day of the 56th annual Beaufort Water Festival brought sunny skies, low humidity and thousands more festivalgoers to Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park.

The second of the 10-day event included the annual raft race and sailing regatta, a badminton tournament, a concert featuring country music artist Lee Brice and the Gatorland Ski Show.

Thousands lined the park's seawall along the Beaufort River for the annual ski show Saturday afternoon, and were excited about the return of the Gainesville, Fla. water skiing troupe.

Scott Joseph of Beaufort and his son Daniel were among those who watched as the team of skiers performed tricks such as the pyramid and flew through the air off a ramp anchored in the river.

"It's just not something you get to see everyday," Joseph said. "The event is kind of the epitome of something that is family friendly. I can come down here with the little one, get a snow cone and just hang out."

Others in attendance Saturday were more enthralled with the technical aspects of the team's performance.

"I grew up waterskiing on Lake Michigan with my parents and I watch these people in absolute amazement," said Joyce Winthrop of Lady's Island. "I could never do half the things these guys are doing. People probably think this stuff is easy but they ought to give it a try sometime. It's much harder than it looks."

The team are scheduled to perform again Sunday, according to festival organizers.

The festival continues today with boat bingo, Coast Guard cutter tours and Children's Day, featuring rides and games throughout the park and the festival's annual Teen Dance.
