- Events planned today across Beaufort County to celebrate the Fourth of July include the following:
- The Bluffton Children's Fourth of July Parade begins at 10 a.m. today in front of the Church of the Cross on Calhoun Street. Participants are invited to decorate strollers, bikes -- anything they want. The parade ends at Lawrence Street. Details: 843-757-3855 HILTON HEAD ISLAND
- Harbour Town will celebrate with children's activities, live music and a fireworks display. The fireworks will begin at dusk, about 9:15 p.m., from a barge in Calibogue Sound. There is a $5 gate fee for entrance into Sea Pines, and a free shuttle service will be offered between Harbour Town and various parking lots within Sea Pines. No coolers are permitted. - The Skull Creek Community Fireworks Celebration will feature fireworks launched from a barge on Skull Creek starting at 9:30 p.m. Outdoor entertainment begins at 6 p.m. at Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks, Chart House and the Skull Creek Boathouse. - The Sandbox, An Interactive Children's Museum will celebrate "Pop Goes the Sandbox!" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today. Festivities include games and indoor and outdoor activities. A barbecue picnic, lemonade, snow cones and birthday cake will be served. Tickets are $10 a person (free for children younger than 2 and $8 for Sandbox members) and include admission to the museum, all activities and the picnic. - Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island will hold its annual Fourth of July Celebration today, with gates opening at 5 p.m. Fireworks begin at about 9:15 p.m. at the Peatross Parade Deck. The event features the Parris Island band, free food and kids' activities. Visitors may bring coolers, blankets and lawn chairs, and they must show a driver's license, proof of insurance and registration at the main gate. The town of Port Royal and the Historic Port Royal Foundation will offer "The 4th at The Sands" beginning at 5 p.m. today. The celebration will feature food vendors, beverages, face painters, merchandise, music and the town's fireworks immediately following the Parris Island fireworks, which also can be viewed from The Sands. COASTAL FLY-OVER
- Beachgoers throughout Beaufort County and the state can salute the troops and possibly appear on a video that will be sent to military deployed overseas during the second annual Salute from the Shore fly-over today. Four Air Force F-16 Vipers will start at the North Carolina border at 1 p.m. and fly over every beach in South Carolina by 1:20 p.m. Beachgoers are encouraged to create super-sized salutes for troops. A helicopter will video the crowd in certain areas.
