Lady's Island McDonald's robbed at gunpoint

May 19, 2011

An armed, masked man accosted an employee at about midnight Thursday at the McDonald's on Lady's Island while the worker was taking out trash. He ordered the employee back inside and robbed the restaurant of an undisclosed amount of cash, authorities say.

The robber told the restaurant's employees, who were closing for the night, to lie on the floor, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office news release. The manager was told to get the restaurant's cash. The robber, described only as a black male, took the money and ran.

No employees of the restaurant at 177 Sea Island Parkway were harmed, and no customers were present.

Sheriff's Sgt. Robin McIntosh said it is unclear whether the crime is connected to similar armed robberies this week in Beaufort and Burton involving armed, masked men -- one Sunday in the Pizza Hut on Ribaut Road and one Tuesday in the parking lot of the Howard Johnson motel on Trask Parkway.

Anyone with information should contact Investigator Sgt. J. Kelleher at 843-255-3418 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
