Register for virtual summer school

Students in kindergarten through seventh grade are invited to participate in the Beaufort County School District's free virtual summer school program.

Students can work on individual areas of need or prepare for the coming school year by using a Web-based tool during eight weeks this summer. Students will complete CompassLearning sequences in math and language arts for each week of summer school.

The program will be available June 13 through Aug. 5. Registration is available at goo.gl/kUfQJ, according to a news release.

BATTERY CREEK HIGH SCHOOL

  • The School Improvement Council will meet Thursday in the media center.

  • Spirit Nights at Jersey Mikes Subs on Robert Smalls Parkway will be from 4-9 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of the month. Ten percent of all sales will support the school's Athletic Booster Club. The next Spirit Night is May 26.

  • A PTSO meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. May 26 in the John J. McVey Performing Arts Center.

    BEAUFORT HIGH SCHOOL

  • The School Improvement Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month in the media center. The next meeting will be Tuesday.

  • The bands and orchestra will present a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Arts Center at Beaufort High School.

    BEAUFORT-JASPER ACADEMY FOR CAREER EXCELLENCE

  • Senior Candice Life has been selected as the most outstanding career and technology education student in the Lowcountry. She will be recognized as a Technology Champion during the Education and Business Summit in Greenville in June. Life will be joined by winners from each of South Carolina's other 11 regions. A health sciences student, Life has met the standards for a certified nursing assistant and will receive a completer certificate from ACE upon graduation.

    BEAUFORT MIDDLE SCHOOL

  • PASS testing will begin this week.

  • BMS won the baseball championship game April 27 against Lady's Island Middle School. Aaron Brantley was the pitcher. Connor Gruel had five RBIs and Shuler Black had four RBIs.

    LADY'S ISLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

  • PASS testing will begin today for students in grades three and four.

  • Read Across the USA reading logs are due May 17.

  • Box Tops and Campbell's soup labels are due May 17.

  • The D'Arts Alive spring performance will be 6:30-7:30 p.m. May 17 in the school cafeteria.

  • A strings performance will be May 20 at Beaufort High School.

    LADY'S ISLAND MIDDLE AND INTERMEDIATE SCHOOLS

  • PASS testing begins this week.

  • The SIC meets at 5 p.m. May 19 and the PTO meets at 6 p.m. May 19.

  • The spring showcase for dance will be at 6:30 p.m. May 19 at Beaufort High School. The showcase for strings, band and chorus will be at 6:30 p.m. May 20 at Beaufort High.

  • The eighth-grade social will be May 21.

  • Field Day/Spring Fling will be May 27.

  • No school May 30.

    RIVERVIEW CHARTER SCHOOL

  • PASS testing begins this week.

  • A field day is May 27.

    ST. PETER CATHOLIC SCHOOL

  • The following students participated last month in the first Christ Our King-Stella Maris School Mathletics Competition: Jillian Coffman, Ethan Goodwin, Jonathan Field, Alyssa Rembold, Graham Ruff, Noah Brock, Brigid Murphy, Noah Goodwin, Katie McArdle and Tessa Wilson.

  • The second grade will travel today to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort for a field trip.

  • Confirmation will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the church with Bishop Robert Guglielmone presiding. Practice will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Details: Deacon Bill Lacombe, 843-522-9555

  • The last PTO meeting of the school year will be at 7 p.m. May 17 in the Walsh-Palmetto Room. Details: Dee Avard, 843-522-2163

  • Eighth-grade graduation will be 6:30 p.m. June 1 in the church.

    REUNIONS/ALUMNI

  • The Beaufort High School Class of 1991 will hold its 20th reunion July 29 and 30 in Beaufort. It includes a meet and greet, family cookout and "White Affair Social."
