Lilies on the River honors influential women

May 2, 2011

About 600 lilies will float along the Okatie River on Saturday, a silent tribute to the women who have touched a life.

Lilies on the River is the main fundraiser for Hope Haven, a nonprofit organization that provides services to victims of rape and abuse.

The releasing of the lilies ceremony starts at 2 p.m. Saturday at Berkeley Hall clubhouse in Bluffton.

Lilies can be purchased for a $10 donation. Each lily can be dedicated to a woman, living or dead. The names of the women will be printed in The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette on Mother's Day.

Lilies must be purchased by today.

"This is a great way to honor your mother or another woman who has touched your life in some way," Hope Haven director Shauw Chin Capps said.

A pre-ceremony luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Berkeley Hall clubhouse. Admission is a $60 donation.

Each year, a woman from the community is honored at the luncheon. This year, S.C. Rep. Shannon Erickson, R-Beaufort, will be recognized for advocacy of children's issues.

Lilies on the River is expected to raise about $25,000 for Hope Haven.

Lilies can be purchased online at www.hopehavenlc.org. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact Hope Haven at 843-524-2256.
