For Caring Coins

The Island Recreation Association would like to thank Hargray's Caring Coins for its generous support of our children's scholarship fund. Again, we know in our community Caring Coins has many choices when it comes to charitable giving. Its support of the Island Recreation Association is greatly appreciated.

Rest assured, we will continue to earn your support by serving our community with opportunities for a healthier, happier life for everyone.

For event success

On behalf of the Strive to Excel organization, our sincerest thanks go to our speakers, our sponsors, our students who attended and our parents and teachers who embraced the entire event, "A Teen Health Symposium: Mind, Body & Spirit," on April 9 at The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa.

This event was well-attended by our public and private seventh-graders. Our speakers for this event were fabulous and worked with our teens with the utmost respect and approachability. We are very grateful to all of our speakers who graciously gave of their time, energy and professionalism.

We thank Magic Marc Dunst, Debi Lynes, Chris Schembra, Jane Jude, the STEP Dance Team/Hilton Head Island High School, Hilton Head High students Mariah Sustache, Nikki King, Amber Savage, Dr. Tracy Blusewicz, Dr. Katherine Coley and Dr. Dammun Pierce. What a fabulous group of professionals. From Facebook safety, to bullying, to teen health, our seventh-graders were amazed at how much they learned on this day.

Again, our sincerest thanks to all of you. You made a difference.

For wine gala

I'd like to send a very special thank you to the hundreds of volunteers who made the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina's recent Wine Auction Gala a flawless success.

The tireless work of these volunteers, committee members and very generous auction lot donors -- under the especially superb leadership of Helen Ryan, gala chairwoman, and Kathy Joslin, vice chairwoman -- helped the arts center exceed its fundraising goal for this benefit. Special thanks also to Hester Hodde, Ben Ham, Liz MacLeod, Beth Mayo, Leslie Richardson and Ruthie Edwards for bringing their special committee chairpeople talents to this fundraiser.

In particular, I'd like to thank our sponsors The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa; Ben Ham Images; Don and Helen Ryan; Hunter Maclean Attorneys at Law; the MacLeod Group; McNair Law Firm; Roberson Jewett Partners Merrill Lynch; Sport & Spine Institute; Stuckart Ruckno Group Merrill Lynch; and the generous individual sponsors who wish to remain anonymous.

We also are very thankful to the more than 350 patrons, neighbors, friends and wine lovers who attended the event, giving generously of their time and money. Their support for our organization was overwhelming in its warmth and enthusiasm. Without their commitment, we would not be able to serve this community, along with its arts education and outreach needs.

We sincerely thank you again and again for the continued support shown for the arts center.

For funding help

On behalf of the entire Strive to Excel Organization -- our board, our families and our student members -- we would like to express our sincerest thanks and appreciation to the Heritage Classic Foundation and the Verizon Foundation.

Being selected as one of the nonprofit organizations in our community to receive funding from the Heritage Classic Foundation and Verizon Foundation is quite an honor and a privilege. In these times of economic stress and fundraising challenges, it is quite moving and inspiring to have the support of such a strong philanthropic source in our community. It is a partnership that we honor and value for a lifetime.

As Strive to Excel continues to give hope to our student members, providing them with a solid foundation to lead a successful post-secondary educational career, we reflect on our 10-year existence and feel proud to be part of this community, proud to be a part of our public school system and very proud to make a difference in the lives of these children.

Our mission is strong, and we are so grateful to all of you who continue to support it and us.

For sale success

The Herb Society of Hilton Head Island thanks all involved for helping make our spring herb sale April 16 a success: Roni Allbritton and The Mall at Shelter Cove Mall for use of the Center Court and help with the tables and other facilities; The Greenery and Amy Spadafora for the splendid herb plants; all the local publications, TV and radio stations that so kindly announced the sale; and all the Herb Society members for preparing the herb products.

We especially thank our customers who enthusiastically buy our products, enabling us to make substantial donations to local charities. We look forward to seeing you again at our fall sale.

For college support

Very shortly, I will graduate with honors from Clemson University with an industrial engineering degree. I am so grateful for all of my past and present support and wanted to take the time to thank the following contributors.

After reflecting upon all of this assistance, I realized how fortunate I was to have the constant financial and personal assistance from the Heritage Classic Foundation. Every year my scholarship funds were timely and accurately coordinated with the college finance department. I also received funds every year from the Clemson University Trustee Scholarship Fund and Palmetto Fellows. My first year of college, the following community members sent me off on a sound financial footing: the Bluffton Foundation Fund, Bluffton High School All Sports Booster Club, Ella C. White Memorial Scholarship Fund, Hilton Head Area Association of Realtors, Jocko Roberts Memorial Scholarship Foundation, Okatie Rotary Club/Will Dewane Scholarship Fund, Rotary Club of Hilton Head/Kathleen H. Ruth Memorial and the Women's Association of Hilton Head Island.

I would also like to recognize my teachers, guidance counselors, coaches and other community members who instilled in me many skills to succeed. Finally, my sincere appreciation goes to my parents, who have loved and guided me along the way.

Simply, thank you and please recognize that you and your organizations made it possible for me and many others to attain our higher education goals and represent our generous community.

For book donation

The Hilton Head Island Friends of the Library would like to thank the person who made a very generous anonymous donation of books to the library. The sales of these books in the Friends bookstore will directly benefit the collections and programs of our library.

The beautiful letter that accompanied this donation reflects the donor's love of books and our library.

For doctors' help

Several weeks ago, my wife and I underwent a huge shock to our family.

My wife was asked to return for a second mammogram, after which, we were informed biopsies were needed. When they came back, we found out she had breast cancer. We were consulting with Dr. Virginia Hermann, breast cancer specialist. With her knowledge, guidance and direction, my wife decided to proceed with a mastectomy. Dr. Robert Laughlin, a plastic surgeon, was consulted and became a team member.

After surgery in our local Hilton Head Hospital, we are excited to report my wife is free of cancer, and will have no involvement with either radiation or chemotherapy. How fortunate we are living on this beautiful island to have outstanding surgeons and an excellent hospital, all of whom provided first-class service and attention. We are so grateful to Dr. Hermann and Dr. Laughlin for their wonderful surgery knowledge and skills. It doesn't come any better.
