Gazette College Honors for April 25

April 25, 2011 

  • Amy Becker of Beaufort recently received a medallion signifying her induction into the Alpha Chi National Honor Society chapter at Lander University. To qualify, students must be juniors or seniors who rank in the top 10 percent of their class. Becker is a mass communications and theater major.

  • Kenya Little of Beaufort has recently earned an associate's degree in Applied Science, Technical Studies from Excelsior College.

  • Jennifer Mathis has been selected as the recipient of the 2011-2012 academic year Park University Military Family Scholarship based on her academic achievement and extracurricular activities. She is a social psychology major at the Beaufort Campus Center.

  • Ashley Montano of Beaufort recently won the President Harry Lightsey Humanitarian Award in association with the 2011 ExCEL Awards on behalf of the College of the Charleston. Ashley won for her efforts in getting the Charleston hospitality industry to work with the Global Soap Project where they recovered used soap from American hotels, molded them into new bars and distributed it to refugee camps in Africa and Haiti. She also received a $3,000 Fulbright scholarship to further the project.
