BHS robotics club takes third at regionals

The Beaufort High School Eaglebots competed March 26 against 30 teams at the Southeast Regional VEX Robotics Championships hosted by Georgia Tech Savannah. The Eaglebots, who won the event last year, fell just short of defending their title and returning to this year's International Championship in Orlando. In an intense semi-final match to advance to the finals against eventual champion Brunswick Career Academy, the Eaglebots battled fiercely but came up short, 31-32.

"Our student engineers gave it their very best," coach Doug Plank said. "All four of the teams we entered worked intensely all year designing, developing and programming their robots with this event in mind. We are very proud of their performance. When the event was over, students shook hands, packed up the tool boxes and began discussing what was next, like true professionals."

Team members included Kodiak Clatterbuck, Josh Morgan, Cody Weyandt, Paul Beer, Josh Cole, Ed Watson, Zack Suda, Michael Shipper, Richard Rottett, Amanda Benoit, Brian Bartholf, Jon Marc Levine and Schrader Doray. BHS graduate Matthew Fisher returned as a mentor-coach.
