Mr. and Mrs. Rex Smith of Beaufort announce the engagement of their daughter, Amy Marie Smith to Brett Hamilton Lancer, both of Aiken. Mr. Lancer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Lancer of Hollywood, S.C.

Miss Smith is the granddaughter of Mrs. Frances Boyce and the late Henry Boyce and the late Mr. and Mrs. Heyward Smith, all of Beaufort. The bride-elect earned a BS in Biology from Winthrop University and a BS in Nursing from the University of North Florida. She is an RN with the Aiken Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Lancer is the grandson of Mrs. Betty Lancer and the late Dave Lancer of Sullivan's Island, SC and Mrs. Myra Hamilton and the late Woodrow Hamilton of Tolu, Ky.

The groom-elect earned a BA in Criminal Justice from The Citadel and a Juris Doctorate from the Charleston School of Law. He is an attorney with the law firm of Johnson, Johnson and Whittle in Aiken.

The wedding is planned for 2011.
