Savannah woman killed in two-vehicle crash in Jasper County

March 26, 2011

The S.C. Highway Patrol still is investigating a two-vehicle crash in Jasper County that killed a Savannah woman Saturday.

According to the highway patrol, a 1997 Dodge Pickup truck driven by 56-year-old Walter Wallace of Garden City, Ga. was traveling north on U.S. 17 in Jasper County when it was struck head-on by a southbound 2001 Ford sedan.

Wallace and the driver of the sedan, Sylvester Carr, 66, of Savannah were taken by ambulance to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, said Lance Cpl. Bob Beres, highway patrol spokesman.

A female passenger in the sedan was killed in the accident, Beres said.

Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls declined to release the woman's name Saturday because her next of kin had not been notified.

All were wearing seat belts, according to the highway patrol.

The highway patrol's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash, Beres said.
