Spending every summer on a tiny, remote Maine island without cable TV or the Internet isn’t for everyone. But to Margret and Charlie Maloney, Matinicus Island is paradise. For the last 47 years, they've spent June through September in their somewhat rustic second home on the three-mile long, one-mile wide island, embracing a lifestyle that requires a sense of adventure, tolerance, independence and humor.
