Romance is about the senses, and Skillets Grill & Cafe on Hilton Head Island delivers the sights, sounds and aromas for a special meal. Whether for breakfast on Valentine's Day, a leisurely weekend brunch or quick work day lunch date, Skillets owner Amie Baima and her staff set the stage.

A perfect morning might include a stroll on the beach at Coligny Beach Park, then breakfast and coffee at Skillets. In addition to breakfast combinations served in individually sized porcelain skillets, the restaurant serves omelets, crepes, eggs benedict, pancakes and variations of French toast.

Try the crepes made with fresh strawberries, topped with whipped cream and dusted with powdered sugar, or the bananas foster buttermilk pancakes garnished with fresh sliced bananas ($7.95). Skillets also offers fluffy, healthy whole grain pancakes.

Or as Amie Baima says, do the unexpected and bring your Valentine to Skillets for lunch. Chef Javier Mendez is especially proud of his elegant Seafood Newberg, which is pan seared shrimp, scallops and tilapia in a cream sherry sauce and topped with a puff pastry ($11.95).

For a lighter meal, take pleasure in a salad of parmesan encrusted grilled chicken breast with seasoned pecans over mixed spring greens.

A special meal deserves dessert, and Skillet's strawberry tres leches ($5.95) is an exuberant interpretation of the popular Latin American sweet.

Local restaurants typically take a break during winter's slower season, returning with new offerings in the early spring. Skillets has reopened for dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, with early dining specials from 5-6:30 p.m. In addition to the regular menu, nightly dinner specials emphasize fresh ingredients and creative preparation. The restaurant's entrees are affordable homestyle meals prepared and served by people who enjoy what they do.

Skillets is family friendly. There's a children's menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In the outdoor seating area, dogs are welcome and Skillets even has a dog menu featuring Lucky Dog entrees.
