2007 Sbragia Monte Rosso Cabernet Sauvignon, California; $50

If you are looking for a full-bodied red to splurge on now that 2010 is behind us, this is a great choice. "Rich" and "velvety" were the first words that came to mind when I tasted this treasure. Delicious dark blackberry jam fruit notes, black cherries and notes of white pepper fill the mouth and flow smoothly to the finish. Notes of oak, vanilla and the dark fruit perfectly hold the taste buds. This wine drinks like a much more expensive bottle and will stand up to any cut of beef or game. This is a real winner for the price.

The Kraken Black Spiced Rum, Caribbean; $28

This is a unique rum that's easy to find in the store -- just look for an octopus holding a ship on the label. It displays an almost black color with aromas of sweet molasses and sugar cane. Flavors of vanilla, cream soda, chocolate and caramel with just the right amount of heat fill out the tasting experience. This relative newcomer to the rum market has lots of flavor and character. Grab a bottle; it will be the hit of the party. It would be perfect with club soda or juice, or just on the rocks.
