Beaufort Memorial's ER to get some love from Valentine Ball

January 11, 2011

The Beaufort Memorial Hospital Foundation will host its 22nd annual Valentine Ball on Feb. 12. Dr. & Mrs. Paul Mazzeo and Mr. & Mrs. DeWitt Helm are co-chairpeople of the black tie gala, which serves as the major fundraising event for the nonprofit community hospital.

The festivities begin with dinner at private homes throughout the area. The party then moves to the Lyceum at Parris Island, where guests enjoy gourmet desserts and bid on an array of auction items, while dancing to live music.

Since inception, the ball has raised more than $3 million, with proceeds earmarked each year for specific departments of the hospital. This year money raised goes toward the expansion of the George N. Pratt MD and Sarah Meyer Pratt Emergency Center.

Expansion of the emergency center is a high priority for Beaufort Memorial. The current facility handles almost 40,000 visits each year, far exceeding the capacity of its clinical and support space. Expansion and renovation, which will expand the center from 9,500 square feet to almost 20,600 square feet, will provide faster and more efficient care of patients, larger and more comfortable waiting areas, and more triage rooms.

Tickets cost $150, and include dinner and the ball. Reservations to attend one of the preball dinner parties is required by Jan. 15.
