Photographer portfolio: Sarah Welliver's best of 2010

Riders race down a section of Coligny Beach on marsh tackies during the first heat of the second annual Marsh Tacky Run in February. The event showcased the history of the marsh tacky horse, a Lowcountry breed of stocky horses native to the Sea Islands.

Sarah Welliver joined The Island Packet in 2008. Before moving to South Carolina she was a photography intern at the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Argus Leader, the Detroit Free Press and The Santa Fe New Mexican. Her photographs have been featured in the Marine Corps Times, Wall Street Journal Online and PDNedu magazine. Welliver spent four years in the Marine Corps, where she rose to the rank of sergeant. She graduated from the University of Montana in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism. WANT MORE?
