Former Beaufort High School star Devin Taylor earned another round of accolades for his sensational sophomore season at the University of South Carolina, as the Gamecocks defensive end Monday named a first-team selection for the Associated Press All-Southeastern Conference football team.
Taylor finished the regular season with 39 tackles -- 12 for loss -- and his 7 1/2 sacks ranked fourth in the SEC. He also recovered two fumbles and had one interception, which he returned 24 yards for a touchdown in a win against Tennessee.
Three teammates joined Taylor on the squad. Sophomore wide receiver Alshon Jeffery and freshman running back Marcus Lattimore made the first team, and sophomore cornerback Stephon Gilmore was named to the second team. Lattimore was named the conference's freshman of the year.
