An unoccupied condominium was set on fire Saturday on Hilton Head Island, according to news release today.

The Hilton Head Fire & Rescue Division reports the fire alarm came at 1:05 a.m. for Marsh Side Villas at 5 Gumtree Road. Heavy smoke was coming from the attic, the fire division’s release said.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 1:40 a.m. The master-bedroom closet and bathroom were damaged, and there was smoke damage throughout the dwelling.

The fire was determined to be intentional and was turned over to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office for investigation, the release said.

Four engine companies, a truck company and a medic unit responded.
