November 19, 2010

Three Beaufort County men were caught in Hardeeville in between burglaries earlier this week.

Members of the Beaufort/Jasper Multi Agency Drug Task Force stopped a car with three men in it at Argent Boulevard and U.S. 278 at about 11 p.m. Monday and found a handgun, according to a news release Friday from the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

After getting a search warrant, officers and deputies also found gloves, masks and a stun gun.

The three had broken into a business on Low Country Drive and were on their way to break into a home when they were stopped, according to the release.

Charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary were Ernesto Marinez-Trejo, 23, of Bluffton; Darren Steven Mahaffey, 21, of Hilton Head Island; and Justin Ramon Simmons, 24, of Bluffton.

Marinez-Trejo also was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal alien, and Mahaffey and Simmons were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
