Alpha Phi Alpha begins mentoring program

The Beaufort chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will begin Alpha Academy, its six-month mentoring program, at 10 a.m. Saturday at Union Baptist Church in Port Royal. The program is designed to empower youth to aspire toward higher education through the creation of self-awareness, avoidance of risk-taking behaviors and participation in positive self-esteem building activities. There will be seminars on time management, leadership, sexual responsibility, study skills, goal- setting, etiquette, hygiene and future aspirations. The program is structured to accommodate 25 participants between the ages of 12 and 18. Registration is $60 for new members and $50 for returning members.
