Packet Thank You Letter for Oct. 11

For the grant

Special Olympics Area 8 would like to thank Calhoun Station Thrift Store in Bluffton for its generous grant supporting our tennis programs in 2010.

This year, 37 adult and school-aged athletes from Bluffton and Hilton Head Island were able to participate in Special Olympic tennis. This funding enabled our athletes to practice, provided transportation to and from practices and events, and made it possible for our athletes to participate in area tournaments as well as state games. Our local athletes also teamed with Special Olympics athletes around the country to compete in the National Special Olympics Tennis Tournament held in March at Van der Meer Tennis Center in Shipyard on Hilton Head.

We urge everyone to support Calhoun Station by donating items or shopping in their wonderful store.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

With supporters such as our friends at Calhoun station, this mission can be fulfilled.

For the resources

Bluffton Self Help would like to thank the Long Cove Club Community Endowment Fund for providing resources to purchase a much-needed freezer for our food distribution program.

In addition, many thanks to the Bluffton Rotary Club, Wells Fargo/Wachovia Foundation and Walmart for providing funds to assist those working families who are in need of short-term documented emergency financial assistance.

To the supporters

The Oscar J. Frazier Foundation would like to thank all individuals who have helped and supported us in past years, and those who will continue to help us for years to come. We would also like to thank the town of Bluffton, but we would especially like to thank the community of Bluffton; for all its support in our endeavors to keep one man's dream alive and help others see their dreams come true.

As a courtesy we would like to inform you that the annual scholarship banquet for the Oscar J. Frazier Foundation will not be held this year. Next year we will hold the banquet as in previous years. We would like to congratulate Shayla P. Simmons for being chosen as the scholarship recipient for this year, and we wish her much success in the future.

The Oscar J. Frazier Foundation is a scholarship fund set up to celebrate the legacy of great man, who believed that all things considered education were some of the most important things in life. The goal of this foundation is to assist high school students who seek to further their education. Socrates stated, "Education is the kindling of flame, not the filling of a vessel."

We will continue to keep the fire ablaze with all of your support.
