Bluffton's Crescent Pointe Golf Club has been named the Lowcountry Golf Course Owners Association Golf Course of the Year for 2010. The judges rated the local clubs based on quality of the course and management in addition to the facility's contribution to the community and the game of golf.
Recent winners include Harbour Town Golf Links, Palmetto Dunes and Hilton Head National. Over the past year, Crescent Pointe made improvements to its course, facility and followed a pro-active business strategy that led to an eight percent increase in rounds played in 2010 compared to 2009.
"It is an honor to be recognized (by the LGCOA) as the Course of the Year in the Lowcountry," director of golf Bill Layman said in a release. "The entire staff has worked hard over the past year to improve the conditions of the course and the club, as well as the service provided to our guests."
A new management company, Sequoia Golf Management, and new ownership, Great Oaks Golf, provided nearly $700,000 to improve the course's overall turf quality, aesthetics and playability. The clubhouse was also renovated with new paint, carpet and furniture, as well as granite countertops and flat screen televisions.
GOLF TOURNAMENT TO RAISE MONEY FOR ORGAN DONATION
The parents of Laura Gage hope celebrating the life of their daughter through a charity golf tournament will once again help bring life to others in need.
The fifth annual Laura Gage Golf Tournament is set for Oct. 14 at Rose Hill Golf Club in Bluffton.
Gage was 19 years old when she was killed in a 1995 traffic accident just outside of Amsterdam, New York.
The only silver lining around the tragic situation was the fact that she was an organ donor and she helped save and enrich the lives of eight other people.
Gage's parents, Bob and Fiona Grygiel, moved to the area in 2004 and have hosted a charity golf tournament each year to raise awareness of organ donation in her honor. The money from each event goes to the Children's Organ Transplant Association. This year's recipient will be Joseph Michael Pardue, a 22-year-old from Lancaster in need of a double lung transplant.
The golf tournament will start at noon on Oct. 14 at Rose Hill. The cost is $100 per person and includes dinner and prizes. For more information, contact Bob or Fiona Grygiel at 843-681-2180.
