Festival celebrates St. Helena heritage

The sixth annual Lands End Woodland River Festival will be held on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3 and 4. The festival is a community celebration of the Gullah ancestry and traditions of the people of St. Helena Island through music, storytelling, performances, crafts and food. An old-fashioned fish fry with music on the river will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 3. There will be gospel choirs, dancers, musicians, storytellers, health and safety exhibits, crafts and food vendors selling a variety of hand-made goods and serving a "taste of Gullah" from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 4. The event is free, but there is a parking fee. The Woodland beachfront property is located on Lands End Road, six miles south of Penn Center on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on St. Helena.
