The Coastal Discovery Museum will host "Grass Roots: African Origins of an American Art" from Sept. 3 through December. The traveling exhibition traces the history of the sweetgrass basket, the artform through time and the individuals who practiced basket-making.

The museum, located at Honey Horn on Hilton Head Island, is looking for historic baskets made by Hilton Head Island basket-makers and information about the island's basket-makers and their lives. Demonstrations, lectures, presentations and activities are planned in conjunction with the exhibit. "Grass Roots" is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Mid-America Arts Alliance. A larger version of "Grass Roots" is on display at the Smithsonian Institute's National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C.
