Ceremony to honor Purple Heart troops

The local Chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart will conduct a Purple Heart Recognition Ceremony, Purple Heart Monument, Parris Island Parade Deck, at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 9. Last year Gov. Mark Sanford proclaimed Aug. 7 as Purple Heart Recognition Day throughout the state and encouraged all South Carolinians to pay tribute to the combat-wounded veterans across the Palmetto State for their selfless contributions in defense of freedom and democracy. All Purple Heart recipients and their families are invited.
