The Stock Farm development in old town Bluffton will commemorate Robert Barnwell Rhett's July 31, 1844, speech calling for the South's secession from the Union under the Secession Oak between 7:30 and 10:30 a.m. today.

Larry Hughes, a former president of the Bluffton Historical Preservation Society, will portray Rhett in full dress during the event. Attendees should meet at Stock Farm's Guilford Cottage for instructions on how to view the tree. Stock Farm is located off May River Road near Squat 'N' Gobble in old town Bluffton.
