Firefighters from the Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue Division's Station 4 provided relief from temperatures in the mid-90s Friday creating a waterfall for children at Hilton Head Island Boys & Girls Club's summer program.

Called Water Day, the annual summer splash fest was held in the club's parking lot.

The relief was certainly welcome. The area was under an excessive-heat warning Friday because of high humidity and temperatures that hit 100 degrees in Savannah and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, and 98 degrees at the Salty Dog on Hilton Head Island.

The heat index soared to 117 degrees, according to the Weather Channel.

The National Weather Service predicts through Monday partly cloudy skies each day with highs in the mid-90s, a slight chance of rain and a heat index of 105 degrees.
