The blaze started around 10:30 a.m. in the one-story home's attic, possibly by a light bulb brushing up against an object in the attic, according to Kirk O'Leary, public information officer for the Bluffton Township Fire District. A plumber was working in the attic and tried to put it out, but was unsuccessful, O'Leary said.
The plumber and the couple who live in the home got out uninjured and called 911.
Bluffton Township Fire District firefighters had the fire under control in about 20 minutes, O'Leary said. They are still working to put out hot spots.
Houses beside the burning home were evacuated in case the fire spread. No one was injured.
The home has extensive water and smoke damage.
