At least 50 percent of the money from this increase would go to the chambers of commerce for Hilton Head, Bluffton and Beaufort. Is it a surprise that they support this legislation?
Meanwhile, the president of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce earns well over $300,000 a year. By comparison, our governor earns $106,000, and the South Carolina chief justice earns $144,000.
Please add my name to those who have written to oppose this tax increase. I want to thank the Packet for reporting that my representative, Richard Chalk, voted for this legislation. He has lost my vote.
