The goal of this airline is to "bring business travelers and vacation dollars to the area." This venture is in addition to the hundreds of tour buses and two commercial airlines that plan to serve Branson. The town has few golf courses, rivers, no sandy beaches and no ocean. Lake of the Ozarks is one to two hours away. Hilton Head Island could have its own airline -- we have a wonderful terminal -- but wait, a short runway.
Chicago O'Hare airport has a number of runways, yet they are planning to pay to relocate an entire cemetery simply to lengthen one runway. These are examples of city planners looking to the 21st century and beyond, not just preoccupied with the summer of 2010.
Don't blame the airlines for lack of service. They deserve to fly modern aircraft and to make a profit, while serving a safe airport.
Relocate St. James Baptist Church or build a new church. Build a 5,400-foot runway with 40-year concrete now. This will serve Hilton Head into 2050.
Mayor Tom Peeples, we have numerous golf courses, great restaurants, a number of rivers, wide sandy beaches, the Heritage golf tournament and the Atlantic Ocean. Let the people come to visit in our lifetime. Remember the visionaries who founded this island: "Build it, and they will come."
