Shooting your age is one of the most difficult feats in golf. Hilton Head Island resident Leo Luken continues to make the accomplishment seems effortless.
The 91-year-old shot his age for the 750th time on Tuesday at the Robert Trent Jones Course at Palmetto Dunes.
After firing a 50 on the front nine, Luken came back strong with a 41 on the back, making par on his final two holes.
"I try to shoot my age every time out," Luken said.
After doing it for the 749th time five months ago, Luken had to jump several hurdles on his way to No. 750, overcoming pneumonia, cataract removal, a hernia and cancer on his hand.
Now that his health has returned, the former fastpitch softball player hopes there won't be much time before No. 751.
"I'll be playing with a group on Thursday over at Palmetto Dunes again," Luken said.
Luken first shot his age when he was 71, playing a regulation course in Tennessee. He has lived with his family on the island for more than six years. He's originally from Fort Wayne, Ind., where he was a softball player for the Zollner Pistons in the 1940s and 1950s.
