VARSITY BASEBALL

Christ Church 6, Hilton Head Christian 5: Michael Taylor hit a three-run home run and Travis Myers went 2 for 3 with another homer as Virginia's Christ Church nipped Hilton Head Christian.

For the Eagles, Devin McGuinness was 2 for 4 with an RBI, James Berl was 1 for 3 with two runs and an RBI and Weston Butler was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Christ Church's Justin Hale was the winning pitcher and McGuinness was charged with the loss.

Hilton Head Christian (2-3, 0-1) will host Porter-Gaud at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Battery Creek 5, Hilton Head Prep 3: Aaron Salinas picked up the win, Battery Creek's first of the season, allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in 2 2-3 innings of work.

At the plate, Charlie Brown was 3 for 3 with a triple, double, two runs and an RBI. Shane Goude was 2 for 4 with a double, Monte Alston was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Mike Kaneshige was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run.

For Hilton Head Prep, Tyler Bowman was 2 for 3.

Dylan Powell was charged with the loss.

Hilton Head Prep (1-2-1) will host Thomas Heyward in its region opener at 4 p.m. on Friday. Battery Creek (1-5) will host Beaufort High at 6 p.m. today.

Thomas Heyward 3, Dorchester Academy 2: JA Malphrus recorded 11 strikeouts, leading Thomas Heyward to victory. Malphrus pitched all seven innings for the Rebels, giving up two runs on one hit. He was also solid at the plate, batting 2 for 4 with two stolen bases and an RBI.

Brandon Nettles and Cliff O'Quinn were both 1 for 3. Logan Mock was 1 for 2.

Thomas Heyward (4-1) will travel to Hilton Head Prep for a 4 p.m. game on Friday.

VARSITY GOLF

Magnolia Invitational: On Monday, Hilton Head High's golf team took fourth place in a field of 20 teams at Woodside Plantation in Aiken. The Seahawks finished with a team score of 318, 14 strokes behind winner Blythewood.

Individually, Phillip North fired a 78.

Trent Hoisington, Tate Hoisington and Tyler Williams all fired 80s. Chris Kitter also played and finished with a 92.

The Seahawks' next tournament will be March 22-23 in Sumter.

Region 8-AAAA match: Beaufort High took fourth place in the five-team Region 8-AAAA match at Charleston's Wescott Plantation Golf Club.

The Eagles fired a team score of 182, finishing 14 strokes behind winner Fort Dorchester. Summerville was second, West Ashley was third and Colleton County was fifth.

Individually, Taylor Simonsen had a 43, Josh Fickes had a 45, Hunter Dean had a 46 and Christian Connelly had a 48.

Beaufort High will be back in action next Wednesday against the same teams at Dataw Island.

VARSITY BOYS TENNIS

Hilton Head Prep 4, Bluffton 2: The Dolphins improved to 2-0 while handing Bluffton its first loss. The Bobcats (1-1) play again at 3:30 p.m. today at Wade Hampton.

Beaufort High meet: Battery Creek's boys won nine events and Beaufort High's girls won eight events in Wednesday's meet, at which team scores were not tallied. Beaufort High's Deja Jackson was a double winner, taking first in the discus and shot put.

Bluffton, Hilton Head High, Ridgeland and Wade Hampton also competed in the meet.
