• Matthew Coleman was recently promoted to the rank of Colonel in the United States Army. Coleman is a 22-year Army veteran and a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is stationed at Headquarters European Command in Stuttgart, Germany, with his wife Col. Cheryl Harris. Coleman is the son of Ernest and Viola Coleman of St. Helena Island.

He is a native of St. Helena and a graduate of Beaufort High School.

• Midshipman Nicolas Woods, U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md., and Cadet Michael Woods, U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y., were named to their respective dean's lists for the fall semester at each institution. To earn this distinction, a Naval Academy Midshipman must maintain a 3.4 average in all courses and a Military Academy Cadet must maintain a 3.0 average. Upon graduation, Nicolas will be commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Navy and Michael will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

Nicolas and Michael are the sons of Michael and Cecilia Woods of Seabrook.
