To Bargain Box

Main Street Youth Theatre's board of directors, along with the staff and volunteer actors, would like to thank The Bargain Box for its continued generous support of the theater.

As a recent recipient of a Bargain Box grant, the Main Street Youth Theatre continues to be able to fulfill our mission of exposing youth to a true theatrical experience, and whether on stage or in the audience, to enlighten and educate them through the power of live performance. This grant will help offset the expenses of much needed box office computer hardware and software, which will enable us to streamline our operations to become more cost-efficient. It also will allow us to automate our box office after years of functioning in a manual environment.

The dedication and commitment of all The Bargain Box volunteers make the success of our efforts possible. It is because of them that we are able to enrich the lives of all the children who participate in and attend the theater. Bravo for all they do.

To rescue squad

On Feb. 12, my second day at home after total knee surgery, I became dizzy and almost passed out. My doctor advised us to call 9-1-1 and meet him at the emergency room. The squad from Sea Pines arrived at our house in less than five minutes. They were so very reassuring and thorough.

My wife and I can never thank them enough. They were willing to take me to the emergency room, but both of them felt that I was going to be all right. My vital signs were fine, and they stayed with us until I was totally relaxed. They were so kind and professional. We never got their names, but we felt they should get some recognition for their kindness and compassion.

For dog show

On Jan. 17, the Hilton Head Island Kennel Club held its 19th Annual Pure Bred Dog Exhibition at The Mall at Shelter Cove.

Thank you to all who contributed to its success. Cheryl Jackson and The Mall at Shelter Cove and its employees were again this year a gracious and cooperative host, providing an excellent facility for our use.

The exhibitors, many of them islanders, and others who traveled many miles, spent the afternoon with us and proudly presented their pets to the spectators.

The Savannah Chapter of Friends of Greyhounds brought 11 of their "rescues" for our enjoyment. A newcomer rescue group was Carolina Basset Hound Rescue, represented by Kim Holstein and Ann Nelson. Kim and Ann brought a varied group of hounds, some young, some seniors and even one handicapped. They were all a delight to behold.

A really big thank you to Joyce Whittle from Savannah, who with no hesitation, agreed to "chair" the obedience portion of our show. It was great.

Thanks to the Rally Club of the Lowcountry for its excellent demonstrations in agility and rally, and for its outstanding drill team. What a crowd-pleaser that was.

Thanks to the Kennel Club members and also the volunteers who worked at many varied jobs to assure the show ran smoothly.

Thank you all, and a special thank you to the public who stopped in to enjoy our biggest show ever. You were a great audience. We'll see you again next year.
