But Tabitha pulled through and now she's shining under the bright lights of television studio sets.
The former Bluffton High School student, who started acting when she was 12, moved with her mother from Bluffton to Los Angeles about two years ago to pursue a career in the industry. She has appeared on the popular Nickelodeon show "iCarly" and on an episode of the CBS drama "Criminal Minds."
But her favorite show to work on so far was the hit CBS sitcom "Two and a Half Men." Tabitha plays the part of Nicole, the girlfriend of Angus T. Jones' character, Jake, on an episode titled "Tinkle Like a Princess," airing at 9 p.m. today.
What was so great about working on the highly rated show? Good food, good production and working with Charlie Sheen.
"He is so cool," Tabithd about Sheen.
She and her mother, Laurie, weren't concerned about Sheen's recent legal troubles. They both said he was extremely professional and kind, offering Tabitha advice on her career and advising her to stay away from drugs and smoking.
"They're just normal people," Laurie said about the famous actors on the set of "Two and a Half Men." "It was work as usual. … There was a lot of drama going on in the news, but they didn't bring that onto set. It was very professional."
In addition to her work with CBS, Tabitha will guest star in an episode of the Disney Channel's "The Suite Life On Deck." Though she won't be recognizable to most people who know her -- she'll be dressed as a robot. On the episode "Computer Date," Tabitha will play the part of a female computer named Callie. The episode is scheduled to air in late spring or early summer.
Tabitha said acting in Hollywood is "so much fun," but the life of a teenage actress isn't all fun and games -- it's also a lot of work. In addition to keeping up with her homeschool studies online, Tabitha attends educational workshops to build her acting skills and confidence, takes acting classes and goes on one or two auditions a week. She also has a personal trainer teaching her martial arts and weightlifting, and she works with singing and acting teachers.
"It's a lot of hard work," Laurie said of her daughter's lifestyle. "It's just like a job almost where every time you go to audition it's like a job interview, and there's about 40 people applying for the job. And you just don't hear back because the casting directors are too busy ... to give feedback all the time. So it just takes a person who can handle something like that."
Considering the amount of acting work Tabitha's had in her short time in L.A., she seems to be handling things just fine.
