A 26-year-old Hilton Head Island man accused of firing shots from a car at an SUV in January turned himself in Sunday, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Prentice Roland Scott had been wanted by deputies for a month in connection with a Jan. 7 incident in which multiple rounds were fired at another car on William Hilton Parkway near Central Avenue, said Cpl. Robin McIntosh, sheriff's spokeswoman.

Scott is in the county Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing on charges of two counts of assault with attempt to kill, McIntosh said.

The Sheriff's Office received a report of shots being exchanged between two vehicles, a tan Toyota sedan and a light-colored SUV, near Squire Pope Road. Deputies searched the area, but did not find the cars.

Investigators believe Scott was targeting the driver of a light-colored Ford Escape. Neither the 33-year-old man driving the Escape nor the female passenger was injured, McIntosh said.

The motive has not been determined, she said. The Escape driver told deputies he and Scott are acquaintances, McIntosh said.
