Local LPGA Girls Golf club forming

Local instructors Krista Dunton and Jean Harris are starting a new program for girls called the LPGA Girls Golf club. The club is being created to give girls ages 7 to 17 in the Bluffton/Hilton Head Island area an opportunity to learn how to play, improve their games and meet other girls who play the sport.

The program has more than 200 chapters throughout the country.

The Bluffton chapter will meet 10 times on Saturday afternoons at Rose Hill Golf Club from March to July. LPGA Tour professionals Rosie Jones and Reilley Rankin will make guest appearances.

The program will also include field trips to the Verizon Heritage PGA Tour golf tournament, The Village Golf Shop and other local areas of golf.

The cost of the program is$75.

Dunton is a teaching professional at Berkeley Hall and Harris is the director of instruction at Rose Hill Golf Club.

Six local female golf professionals will host a two-hour instructional golf clinic at Berkeley Hall to raise money for the club. The cost of the clinic is $25.

To register for the LPG Girls Golf club or the clinic, contact Harris at 843-540-1456 golfdoctor@mail.com or Dunton at 843-290-8714 kdunton@me.com.

Spencer-White competed in the boys 13-15 age division and finished with a 121, 14 strokes behind winner Chris Sells of Savannah. Hilton Head Island's Kyle Elchelsbacher finished with a 123.

Legends to participate in fundraiser

The Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf will participate in the "Tickets Fore Charity" fundraising platform.

The program offers organizations a chance to raise funds by promoting tickets sales to the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Champions Tour event, to be held April 19-25 at the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa in Savannah.

The program enables participating charities to receive contributions based on the number of tickets sold in their name.

By the numbers, 75 percent of the money raised will go to the charity promoting the tickets and 25 percent will go to the Savannah Area Chamber Foundation.
