eGolf to open tour season at Palmetto Hall

The eGolf Professional Tour will open its 2010 season with the Palmetto Hall Championship Feb. 17-20 at Palmetto Hall Plantation Club on Hilton Head Island.

The tournament will be played on the Arthur Hills and Robert Cupp courses.

It will mark the second consecutive year the tour has opened its season in Beaufort County. Last year's opener was at Oldfield Country Club in Bluffton.

"We're honored to be hosting the 2010 eGolf Professional Tour's opening event of the season," said Ray Dznowski, director of operations for the Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island. "With so many outstanding golfers participating in the eGolf Tour, this promises to be a spectacular tournament and another fantastic event for Hilton Head Island as a golf destination."

A field of 204 players is expected to compete for an estimated purse of $235,000. The winner of the tournament is expected to earn $35,000.

Volunteers needed for eGolf event

Palmetto Hall Plantation Club on Hilton Head Island is looking for volunteers to work the upcoming eGolf Professional Tour stop Feb. 17-20 on the Arthur Hills and Robert Cupp courses.

Several volunteers are needed to help shuttle golfers on several of the holes from the green to the following tee. Volunteers are also needed to be the starters on the first and 10th tees all four days of the event.

Rijnhout wins IJGT event

Hilton Head Island's Roelof Rijnhout won the International Junior Golf Tour tournament over the weekend at Colleton River Plantation in Bluffton.

The Junior Players Golf Academy student shot a 76-76 -- 152 to win the boys 16-19 division by one stroke.

Bluffton's Wesley Long finished second in the boys 13-15 division with a 153, four strokes behind winner Ben Dietrich of Conover, N.C.

Derrick Villarreal of Hartland, Wis., won the boys 11-12 division with a 157. Anna Young of Saskatoon, Canada won the girls 15-19 flight.

Bruneau 2nd in HJGT event

Hilton Head Island's Daniel Bruneau finished second in the boys 16-19 division of the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour's South Florida Junior Shootout over the weekend at the Country Club of Miami.

Bruneau shot a 77-81 -- 158 to finish seven strokes behind winner Bobby Kimmerly of Weston, Fla.

The tour's next tournament will be the Kiawah Island Junior Challenge on Saturday and Sunday at Cougar Point on Kiawah Island.

The first tour stop in Beaufort County will be the Shamrock International Junior Shootout, set for March 13 at Wexford Golf Club on Hilton Head Island.

Locals compete in Tournament of Champions

Bluffton's Robert Doerr shot a 92-81 -- 173 to finish 31 shots off the lead in the 14th annual Tournament of Champions over the weekend at Tradition Golf Club on Pawley's Island.

Laurens resident Walter Todd won the men's club championship with a 142.

Okatie's Gary Shimmin tied for fourth place in the men's senior club championship. Shimmin shot a 75-75 -- 150 to finish five strokes behind winner Doug Tooke of Greenville. Bluffton's Raleign Wright shot a 156 and Bluffton's Dave Hambly checked in with a 159.
