VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALL
Charleston Collegiate 39, Beaufort Academy 34: Beaufort Academy rallied from a 19-point deficit to tie the game late in the fourth quarter but came up just short, falling to 9-7 on the season.
"It was one heck of a comeback but we just couldn't pull it off in the end," Beaufort Academy coach Jay Gardner said.
Caroline Carmody paced the Eagles with 11 points, Miranda Weslake had six, Charlotte Delfosse had six, Charlotte Westcob had five, Megan Kahn had three and Katherine Neal had one.
For Charleston Collegiate, Sierra Whaley scored 17.
Beaufort Academy (9-7, 2-3) will host Bible Baptist at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
Battery Creek 64, Lake Marion 33: Rashidah Jones scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for her second straight double-double, leading Battery Creek past Lake Marion.
Nikki Hill had 10 points, Jasmine Watson had eight and Kierra Wright had seven.
"The girls played real well," Battery Creek coach Wilbert Bryant said. "They did a good job on both offense and defense."
Raven Scales paced Lake Marion with 10.
Battery Creek (6-12, 3-2) will travel to North Charleston on Friday.
Fort Dorchester 57, Beaufort High 45: Jordan Garnett scored 18 points and Indie Lawson added 17, leading Fort Dorchester past Beaufort High.
For the Eagles, Deja Jackson had 14 points, Arielle McPhee had 11, Celeste Taylor had nine and Ebony Watson had eight.
"We were pretty evenly matched with them," Beaufort High coach Rhonda McCauley said. "We just didn't finish."
Beaufort High (9-11, 0-4) will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at West Ashley.
Hardeeville 67, Military Magnet 24: Jomanda Smalls scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, leading Hardeeville past Military Magnet following Saturday's 74-28 win over Academic Magnet. Shantis Lee had 17 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Aaliyah Hill had 10 points, Kaneisha Staten had six, Evin Percival had four and Crystal Bonaparte had four.
VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL
Battery Creek 77, Lake Marion 50: Battery Creek held a 13-point lead at halftime and pulled away with a 26-13 run in the third quarter to improve to 5-0 in Region 8-AAA.
Javari Albergottie led the Dolphins with 20 points. Brent Evans had 14 points and nine rebounds. Norman Jenkins scored 12 and C.J. Brown had eight points, 10 assists and seven steals.
Monte Hillard paced Lake Marion with 20 points.
Battery Creek (17-2, 5-0) will be back in action at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at North Charleston.
Fort Dorchester 64, Beaufort High 53: R.J. Slawson scored 22 points to lead Fort Dorchester past Beaufort High. For the Eagles, Dymonte Gwathney scored 16 points and Rakeem Palmer had 12.
"We play some good games and we play some bad ones," Beaufort High coach Bruce Beasley said. "Tonight was one of the bad ones. We missed too many easy shots and didn't do a good job of defending in the paint. The officials let it be a very physical game and that kind of played into their favor."
Beaufort High (9-11, 1-3) will travel to West Ashley on Friday.
