Two Bluffton men were arrested Wednesday on burglary charges after they reportedly broke into a vacant Buck Island Road apartment to sleep and wash clothes, a Bluffton Police Department spokesman said.

The men, ages 19 and 41, were arrested at about 7:40 a.m. and taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center, according to the jail log. Both had Westbury Park addresses listed on the log.

Bond had not been set as of Wednesday night.

A property manager found the men asleep inside a newly built, vacant unit during an inspection Wednesday morning, Lt. Bryan Norberg of the Bluffton Police Department said.

The men ran out the back door after waking up, Norberg said. The property manager then called 911.

The suspects led police on a short foot chase before being caught, Norberg said.

He said it wasn't immediately clear why the men weren't sleeping at their Westbury Park residence.

They apparently spent just one night at the vacant apartment, where they used the electricity and washed some clothes, Norberg said.
