Photographer portfolio: Jay Karr's best of 2009

A day at the "office" for Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette staff photographers is spent behind the wheel of their cars and the viewfinders of their cameras. They have a daily schedule of assignments, but undoubtedly, they'll receive a phone call with last-minute changes or a call for breaking news they must scramble to reach. Today we feature Island Packet photographer Jay Karr's favorite photos from the year.

BACKGROUND

Jay Karr has been taking pictures for The Island Packet for 19 years. He grew up in Fulton, Mo., and became interested in photography in high school. Though his bachelor's degree is in English, he eventually received photojournalism training at the University of Missouri, with a master of arts in journalism.
