Hilton Head should fund S.C. Repertory Company

I have been following the stories in the newspaper concerning the organizations that receive funds from Hilton Head Island's accommodations tax collections, including the salary paid to the head of the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.

Now we learn that the town's Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee has recommended South Carolina Repertory Company not receive any funding for the year 2010, after receiving distributions for many years.

The funding the company has received over the past few years has diminished, but it always has received some funds from the tax.

This organization is an important resource for Hilton Head and its arts community. The shows that it presents always are interesting and appeal to a broad population. Recently, we had a group of 16 that went to an island restaurant and then to see the show. It is my desire that the Town Council review the funding of all its organizations and again recognize the importance of this group and continue its funding.
