For tourney support

The Annual Turkey Tournament was held at the Chaplin Public Tennis Center in Chaplin Community Park Nov. 20-22. It was organized and orchestrated beautifully by Tim Ryan, vice president of Public Tennis, with the help of Joe Cain and Lacy Simoneau of the Island Recreation Center.

The tournament had a nice turnout with proceeds going to the Island Rec Center Scholarship Fund and Public Tennis for the Chaplin Park courts.

The prizes, raffle and silent auction could not have been possible without the help of many local organizations, including Outback Steakhouse, Ltters on Main Street, Hudson's, Casey's, Gruby's Deli, Giuseppi's Pizza, Frankie Bones, Flamingo House of Doughnuts, Parrot Cove Grill, Bistro Mezzaluna, Alligator Grille, Catch 22, Fuddruckers, One Hot Mama's, Aunt Chiladas, Yummy House, Vic's Tavern, Applebee's, Street Meet, Professional Tennis Registry, Player's World of Sports, Outside Hilton Head, Sue Sturm and Palmetto Dunes Tennis Center.

We thank local tennis professionals Patrick Mason, Mike Sutcliffe, Keith Whitlow, Keith Ferda and Dom Demaria for donating tennis lessons.

We thank all the players who participated, helping Public Tennis both through donations and by playing tennis.

We hope to see everyone at next year's tournament.

For charity ball help

On Dec. 5, The Curry Foundation held its first Holiday Charity Ball. With a total of 175 attendees, the foundation raised several thousand dollars for local families in need. The evening took place in the lavish Hampton Hall Plantation Clubhouse and featured a sit-down gourmet dinner and dessert, beer and wine, and an on-stage performance by the Boogie Freaks playing disco classics.

We would like to thank our local corporate sponsors whose generous contributions helped make the party an even greater success. These include: Lowcountry Paver, Hampton Hall Plantation Events, Southeastern PrinTech, Roofing Concepts, Do Creative Marketing & Design, Classic Party Rentals, Custom Audio Video, Bremer Concrete & Masonry, American Paving Design, Frankie Bones Restaurant, Wise Guys Lounge, Captain Woody's Restaurant, The Jazz Corner, Tastefully Simple, The Pampered Chef, Party Lite Home Décor, Banana Republic, Charles & Company, H'Allure Nails and Spa, Sports Clips, Urban Bistro, Michael Anthony's Restaurant, Village Golf Shop, Belfair Fine Wines & Spirits, Edible Arrangements, Markel's Card & Gifts Shop, The Corner Perk-Coffee Café, Station 70 Bar & Grill and Christopher Stephens Photography.

To Hero supporters

Hilton Head Heroes was a recipient of funds raised at the recent Holiday Wine Show and Sale held at the Sea Pines Resort Plantation Club. We appreciate the hard work of everyone involved in making the evening so enjoyable, especially those who work in Food and Beverage Operations at Sea Pines Resort. The number and variety of distributors, the expertise of their representatives, the quality of wines and other beverages, along with the refreshments, were all exceptional.

The money raised at the event will go toward helping our organization in its mission to bring families with children who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses to Hilton Head Island for a much-needed vacation. These families are housed at the Hero House located in the Sea Pines Resort, far away from their routines and close to the ones they love.

On behalf of our board of directors, we thank the Sea Pines Resort and all our Hero supporters who attended this wonderful holiday event.

For fundraiser help

We would like to thank the following people for making our fundraiser for The Deep Well Project a success. We held our first Educational Car Care Clinic and Free Car Inspections on Nov. 7. The dedicated staff of H&H Auto Service and H&H Auto Body were on site to talk to and inspect the cars. Napa Auto Parts brought in a team of professionals, who set up educational booths and spent the day answering questions. We thank the local Napa store team, owner Mike Burke and Tucker and his wife, for all the wonderful food and support.

We also want to thank Peter Hew of Car Tunes; Harry and Holly Wallace of Carolina Towing with their "Shrek Tow Truck"; the great folks at Adventure Radio, Katherine, Monty Jett and Jeff Taylor, our disc jockey on site that afternoon; our Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce; and our Deep Well representativeRyan Hazel, who sold chances and shared the importance of Deep Well and all it does for people in need in our community.

The time, talents and generosity given by our friends, staff and fellow small businesses for this event is a true reflection of our giving back to a community that has been so good to us. We appreciate everyone who participated in our event. We hope to make it an annual fundraiser for Deep Well.

To Hargray

The Island Recreation Association would like to thank Hargray's Caring Coins for its generous support of our swim lessons.

The children are learning essential lifelong water safety skills. Again, we know in our community Hargray Caring Coins has many choices when it comes to charitable giving. Its support of the Island Recreation Association is greatly appreciated. Rest assured, we will continue to earn that support by serving our community with opportunities for a healthier, happier life for everyone.

To The Bargain Box

The Hilton Head Choral Society extends its deep appreciation to The Bargain Box for its grant to help fund the April 12, 2010, Spring Concert by the choral society's Youth Choir.

This 38-member group was founded, and is substantially funded, by the choral society as part of its outreach and education missions. Its membership is open via audition to students ages 8 to 18, regardless of ability to pay. The Youth Choir recruits through the public and private school music programs and is intended to supplement them by providing qualified students the opportunity to receive more advanced choral training and to perform publicly. The Youth Choir performs two concerts a year, appears at community events, and also joins the adult chorus to sing with orchestra accompaniment.

Our sincere thanks to the board and many volunteers of The Bargain Box for their continuing contribution to the quality of life in our community. You have also helped these young people to acquire an appreciation for good choral music and to experience the joy of performing it, a lifelong gift.
