Former state senator Catherine Ceips married another former member of the General Assembly in a private ceremony in Beaufort on Saturday.

Ceips, 54, married former State Rep. Wallace Scarborough, 50, during a ceremony at Ceips' home, according to a guest at the wedding.

Ceips, R-Beaufort, served in the state House of Representatives from 2002 to 2007 before winning a special election in June 2007 to fill the state senate seat that opened when Scott Richardson resigned to become director of the South Carolina Department of Insurance. Ceips lost her bid to permanently succeed Richardson in June 2008 when she was ousted in the GOP primary by Tom Davis. Davis went on to win theNovember general election.

Scarborough, who is also a Republican, represented parts of Charleston County in the General Assembly from 2001 through 2007. He was narrowly defeated in November 2008 by Democrat Anne Peterson Hutto.

Attempts to reach Ceips on Saturday were unsuccessful.
