I am a single, middle-aged non-smoker. The most popular company in South Carolina is willing to sell me a plan for $500 a month, with a $5,000 yearly deductible. That means I will spend $11,000 before I can access my coverage.
If, however, I am by then in the next calendar year, I am back to zero and will have to spend an additional $5,000, plus monthly premiums.
Does this seem ethical? Is this how we want to treat each other so that a few can profit from their fellow Americans' health needs?
The lies we are being told play on people's fears, lack of information and refusal to think independently. This is gross manipulation by the insurance companies and the people they enrich. How do some of us sleep at night?
P.S. I was encouraged to sign up now before rates increase Jan. 1, 2010.
