The USC Beaufort cross country team hosted a dual meet with first-year program Armstrong Atlantic on Wednesday at Jasper Park in Hardeeville. With the Southeast Classic coming up Saturday, the Sand Sharks chose to run several of their younger athletes but still pulled out a 22-33 win.

Unattached USCB student Josh Fitts won the 5K race in a time of 16:05. Fitts, a redshirt this season, was a seven-time all-state runner for Wando in high school and will run full-time for the Sand Sharks next season.

Taylor Mason took second in a time of 18:33, John Stanas was third in 18:51, Ian Evans was fifth in 19:07, Evan Szankowski was seventh in 19:58 and Josh Larson was 11th in 20:58.

The Sand Sharks also had members of the women's team in the race. Samantha Wilcutt was the first female to cross the finish line in a time of 25:15.

Other runners were Rachel Ford (28:06), Katie Mock (28:07), Gabrielle Lamb (29:28), Selena Hutson (29:29) and Erin Grider (30:28).

The team will hit the road today for Saturday's Southeast Classic in Louisville, Ky. The top NAIA schools will be in attendance, making it an important meet for USCB.
