Griffin will remain in his job until Nov. 18, assistant city manager Ted Felder said Tuesday.
"He's done a fantastic job as city manager," Griffin said. "He was an asset to Hardeeville."
Griffin could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
Griffin had been assistant city manager for nearly three years before taking the top job in 2008, according to the city's Web site.
Among other things, he was responsible for annexations, planning, zoning, economic development, building inspections and development agreements, according to the site.
