Hardeeville woman killed in wreck
A 65-year-old Hardeeville woman was killed Saturday morning in a two-car crash on S.C. 17 in Hardeeville, Jasper County Coroner Martin Sauls III said.
Francisca DeCastellono, driving alone, pulled into oncoming traffic and was struck broadside by an oncoming vehicle, Sauls said. The driver of that vehicle was not charged in the crash, he said. No one in that car was injured, he said.
DeCastellono was taken to Coastal Carolina Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m., Sauls said.
Registration open for Senior Games
Beaufort County residents age 50 and older can sign up through Oct. 1 for the county Senior Games, an array of competitive, Olympic-style events to be held Nov. 2-6.
Athletes who sign up by 8 p.m. Sept. 15 will receive a free T-shirt.
Entry forms are available at Sun City Hilton Head, Hilton Head Hospital and the Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services main office at Burton Wells Regional Park in Burton.
Volunteers also are needed to help with traffic control, event timing, decorating, posting results, serving refreshments and other tasks.

Retired USMC general to speak
Retired Gen. Robert Magnus will present reports that identify national security threats posed by climate change during a town hall meeting Thursday at Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot.
Mangus, a member of the Center for Naval Analyses Military Advisory Board of top-ranking admirals and generals, will report on the board's findings at 12:30 p.m. at the Depot Chapel, 283 Boulevard De France.
