• Heritage Academy high school students will hold grade-level meetings at noon Thursday for morning-session students and at 12:30 p.m. for the afternoon session students. Freshman will meet with Sarah Shea, advisor, in Room 108. Sophomores will meet with Dean Costakis and Carmen Halpin, co-advisors, in Room 105. Juniors will meet with Gloria Shoemaker, advisor, in the school library. Seniors will meet with Mary Polite, advisor, in Room 102.

• Music director James Berry will assist fourth-graders and parents with instrument rental from Portman's Music from 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday in the band room. There will be a SmartMusic demonstration to follow at 7 p.m. in the media center for all band students and interested parents.
• A mandatory meeting for parents of fifth-grade students will be held in the media center at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. "Care of Frogs," a seminar for the "tween" year, will be presented by middle school principal Rhonda Stones and director of curriculum Debbie Liss. Parents of sixth-graders are also welcome to attend.
HELPING HANDS
• The Booster Club is looking for volunteers to help with the second annual silent auction to be held Sept. 18 during the home football game against Hilton Head Preparatory School. ACHIEVEMENTS
• Vinny Krishna, Mac Orie, Catherine Sheehan, Emmett Askeland, Dorsey Barker and Samantha Kriney were elected by their peers to steer the Leadership Council this year.
• Hilton Head Prep sophomore Adam Oppenheimer has been invited to participate in the annual American Junior Academy of Science, held Feb. 18-22 in San Diego, Calif. Oppenheimer won this honor through participation in the S.C. Junior Academy of Science Paper Presentations. His paper, "Temperature Changes Resulting from a GaAlAs Laser in the Decontamination of a Failing Dental Implant," was also selected to be published by the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. The American Junior Academy of Science is the only U.S. honor society recognizing America's premier high school students for outstanding scientific research.
• Hilton Head Prep students Katherine Jans, Andrea Keriazakos, William Langs, and Brittney Parker have been selected to take part in the 2009-10 Junior Leadership Program sponsored by the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce.
